Call Us Crazy

AT MAD MONK, WE ARE ON A MISSION

WE INVEST IN PEOPLE, PRODUCTS, AND PROCESSES THAT NOURISH ALL LIFE AND NATURE.

In the decade since we began sourcing teas we have learned a lot about agriculture, tea processing and production. Through the course of our journey we have been able to determine some clear patterns and have gained deep insight into the fundamentals of what makes a great tea.

It All Began

WITH A TRIP TO SOUTHEAST ASIA

In 2004, after he had been adventuring abroad for several years, Taylor made his first solo trip to the South Pacific. The asian culture, rich in history, captivated him immediately. Between the misty mountain hikes, incredible cities, and the most delicious tea, Taylor quickly fell in Love.

The Truth Is

RADICALLY SIMPLE

Quality agriculture, and tea especially, begins in the garden. And while things like craftsmanship, altitude, cultivar, and location all play a role, there is one major factor that separates the best tea from the rest...

THE ENVIRONMENT AND ECOLOGY IN WHICH THE GARDEN GROWS.

After 10 Years...

HERE IS WHAT WE DISCOVERED

THE BEST TEAS COME FROM THE BEST TREES.
THE BEST TREES ONLY LIVE IN THE HEALTHIEST SOIL.
THE BEST SOIL CAN ONLY BE FOUND IN A DIVERSE FOREST ECOLOGY.

For us this means a departure from classic mono-culture plantations to bio-diverse gardens and forest. A movement toward Old Growth, Regenerative agriculture.

So much can be said about this essential paradigm shift it's incredible. But if we had to share one idea it would be this:

We Pose A Question

what do you believe in...

“What if the measure of health didn’t just begin and end in the individual? What if the true measure of health and wellness has to encompass the ecology and environment from which we take our nourishment? What if, what is best for us in agriculture is also best for all life and nature?”
